Romance, Holidays, and Wine. That's my kind of story.New Year's in Napa was a deliciously indulgent novella that I read in one sitting.
Mandy, a brilliant post-doc at Stanford, takes a break to meet up with her two friends who are planning their wedding in Napa. She runs into Liam, a man she couldn't commit to 2 years ago, but quickly, the attraction is reignited. With Liam, Mandy learns how to balance her professional demands and set time aside for herself.
I've enjoyed Elisabeth Barrett's novels and have read Christmas in Tahoe. I'd encourage everyone to read both, although one isn't necessarily dependent on the other. I finished this second book wanting to move on to the third book, and I hope it comes out soon! Looking forward to seeing what happens between Mandy and Liam, and the wedding of Chase and Annie. Is there a double wedding in the third novel? I suppose we'll all have to wait to find out!

Elisabeth Barrett is wonderful at what she does. And what she does is write, sweet, romantic books. New Year's in Napa is book two in her West Coast Holiday Series and I am kicking myself for missing book one (Guess it's back to for me).
New Year's in Napa is almost a second chance romance book but not quite. But never fear, it's endearing and enjoyable and holds that wonderful small town feel to it that Ms. Barrett created in her Star Harbor Series only this time without the intrigue.
Amanda Aligheri is focused, driven and brilliant. She has spent the last two and a half years with her head in the lab and her heart on hold. But this year, she is determined to make some changes, to come up for air and to remember just who Amanda Aligheri is. So when her best friend asks her to weekend in Napa with her and her fiancé, Amanda agrees. Ready to face the world, Amanda isn't quite ready to face the man who two years ago, asked her for everything.
Liam Flynn, is suave, charming and dedicated to his family. After his father had a serious heart attack, Liam left the tech world behind and headed for his family vineyard. Basically happy where he is, Liam still wants that special connection. When Amanda Aligheri shows up at his vineyard, Liam is once again smitten. Having to let her go last time was the hardest thing he could do. This time... he's not going to be so understanding.
Priorities.. that's what this book is about. Balancing life and love. Making sacrifices for family, friends and yes work. Compromise.. sounds kinda eh, doesn't it? But it's not. It's wonderful. I love Elisabeth's characters, quirky and sweet.
It was a joy to watch Amanda and Liam's romance develop. To watch both of them grow into the people they are supposed to be. To watch them realize that life can't be compartmentalized.
Another wonderful hit by Ms. Barrett.

I enjoyed reading this story for the most part. I have not followed this series, but had no problem catching up to the other characters as this novella stands alone, no cliffhanger. The only reason I would give this 3.5 stars instead of 4 is due to the small slowdowns in the story when it would go into more technical detail on the h or H’s work. It’s like the author did all this research on skin-grafting, wine-making and coding and found she needed to find little pockets throughout the story to poke them in to show what she learned. After the introduction for each, I skipped those parts and moved on. Other than this, I enjoyed the cadence of the story.
Pros good story, good flow, likable characters, lots of sizzle, nice “I deserve to be happy” theme, as well as a “stand up for yourself” sub-theme.
Cons too much repetitive detail on her job and his, and a slight theme of secret-thrill-seeker/turned-on-by-fear-of-discovery going on – which can be a pro or a con depending on your personal preference.

The perfect read for the new year
I love Elizabeth Barrett's writing and books! This was no exception. Mandy and Liam were great together and had off the charts chemistry! I loved their little history and reconnection.

I really enjoyed reading about Amanda and Liam and about Napa and wine.
I just wish the book was a little longer since I felt the ending was a too rushed.
